Beyblade Series, Watch Order / By Esji/ July 24, 2022

We all know anime that made our childhood so great. While most people found their favorites in the Dragonball, Pokemon, or Digimon franchises, it is undeniable that there are many more fantastic old-school anime worth mentioning here. Sadly I can’t bring up all of them, even though other works like One Piece or Detective Conan are still airing today!

These anime really left a mark on the industry and the community, as they still retain a sizable fanbase even after 20 years. But how did they do it? Well, the topic of this article, Beyblade, is much like the previously mentioned shows.

Do you remember the beyblades, those spinning bad boys from the early 00s? They were a big deal even in my class! The boys would play it all day long during recess, and of course, these were the most entertaining pieces of equipment an elementary school kid could lay their hands on, maybe except for fantasy game cards.

Beyblade is a still-living franchise with new seasons or movies being released every year, which is quite weird for the promotional campaign of such a simple toy, but considering that Pokemon and Digimon are still a thing, we can accept Beyblade’s success as well.

In this article, I will list out the best watching orders for the franchise. You see, the intended way of watching things is undoubtedly the order they were released in, chronologically. On the other hand, if you don’t mind skipping the smaller filling stuff, like all the specials and spin-offs, then you can use the first listing too, which only takes a look at the type of broadcasting type of the show!

Over the years, Beyblade has released many different types of media. You see, different anime studios worked on the franchise, and both their understanding of the style and their methods of adapting has varied greatly. Some of these studios were Madhouse, Nippon Animedia, Tatsunoko, Synergy SP, Nelvana, and OLM.

If you are interested in the most down to the core parts of Beyblade, then I can really recommend watching only the regular seasons of the franchise. While the other parts can hold interesting adventures too, you should keep in mind that there are overall more than 960 episodes right now, which are, for the most part, different stories altogether.

ALL 17+ Beyblade Series Watch Order (Complete) EASY TO FOLLOW! (5)

Over the span of these 900 episodes, Beyblade saw the release of regular anime seasons, movies, specials, spin-offs, and plenty of ONAs too! The last one shouldn’t be confused with OVAs, the more known type of media. ONAs are basically the same episodes, but they were purposefully only released on the internet by the provider without a TV broadcast.

I will be describing the plot of each new series under their subheadings, so you should check them out, and see for yourself if a new run caught your interest!

Every new little saga starts with a new cast experiencing vaguely the same things, but generally, Beyblade is about kids playing with beyblades. Of course, the little child game turns into an intergalactic battleground soon and only the mains can be the victors in the fray. Let’s dive a little more into it now!

The first season is also known as Bakuten Shoot Beyblade. It is of course the foundation of everything, so skipping it is not up for debate. It introduces the characters of the upcoming seasons, as well as giving us a little glimpse of the world where playing Beyblade is a professional sports game.

The young boy Takao is a massive fan of the sport. He has his own set of equipment, a fairly weak type of beyblade and he constantly searches for stronger opponents. It takes no time for him to find one, as the series starts with him already being late to a battle against the best blader in town.

On his way to the site of the duel, the “champion” he was supposed to fight already lost to another dude named Hiruta, a member of the local blader gang. Hiruta took the champion’s bey, but Takao didn’t let him slip away. They promised to fight for the bey the next day.

With the help of his new friend, Kyoujyu, Takao realizes that he will need some better stuff to fight Hiruta’s big bey. Suddenly, Takao awakens the Great Dragoon Spirit, a hidden power that ran in his family for generations.

ALL 17+ Beyblade Series Watch Order (Complete) EASY TO FOLLOW! (8)

With new knowledge and confidence, Takao beats Hiruta. Then the latter’s boss appeared, named Kai, the leader of the gang. He wanted to destroy Hiruta’s possession as punishment for his failure, but Takao wanted to fight him. Of course, he lost, and his bey was destroyed.

As they were trying to repair the bey, Takao was asking Dragoon for guidance once again. The spirit moved into Takao’s bey, thus the equipment gained an insane power boost. Takao managed to force out a draw with Kai in their next fight.

The story developed to some crazy extents later, but long story short, Takao slowly evolved his skills and defeated stronger opponents, just like in any other shonen anime.

At the end of the first season, Takao manages to become the World Champion in beyblading along with three other teammates in the squad Bladebreakers. He defeated the prodigy called Yuri and put an end to the schemes of some bad people. Well, that’s the story in a nutshell!

The second season is basically the same, but the Bladebreakers have broken up, Takao is bored in his school and a new challenger approaches him. In this season, we were introduced to a lot of new characters, and finally, females had an impact too! In the end, Takao fought robots (don’t ask me), and used three different beyblade sets at the same time, but he once again claimed the title of World Champion.

The third original season is a real stretch to the events that happened so far. Takao is, of course, fighting new dudes one after another, but in the end, he is literally facing off against Satan. Or something like that at least, as his enemy grew black wings, spoke in a diabolic voice, and even started to burn the world into ashes. Takao managed to clean up his enemy, Brooklyn, with the power of friendship. He and Kai stayed together to the end despite the early rivalry, and they fought a friendly duel right at the end of the show as well.

2.3 Beyblade: Metal Fury (52 episodes) – 2011

2.4 Beyblade: Shogun Steel (38 episodes) – 2012

Spoiler or not, the Metal Saga, and the upcoming Burst series are basically spin-offs of the original three seasons, but they can be treated as eligible entities for a regular anime season. These sagas were thought out enough to make good shows, and the depth of one another was controlled adequately.

Explaining the story of these newer “regular seasons” would be pointless, as they are almost like the carbon copy of the first 154 episodes of Beyblade. One thing to note about the Metal Saga though: it’s way more serious than a regular child’s show. The setting, as well as the developments are gruesome from time to time, as watching it as a chill program would be fatal.

The Metal Saga revolves around the young blade genius Gingka, who travels the world to defeat the evil organization that is responsible for the death of his father. Of course, he fights them through beyblade duels. In the world of Takao, Gingka, and many other MCs, everything can be solved by playing beyblade.

The story gets more and more twisted as time goes on, and the characters will regularly face off otherworldly creatures, as well as fight in space themselves. How can such a premise work? Good question, watch it for yourself to find out!

4.1 Beyblade: Fierce Battle – 2002

4.2 Metal Fight Beyblade vs the Sun: Sol Blaze, the Scorching Hot Invader – 2010

The movies hold no real connection to the main series, as the first one, Fierce Battle, known as Takao vs. Daichi too, is basically a non-canon alternate version of how the two characters met. They of course fought a hardcore battle, but Takao came out on top, saving the day in the meantime.

The second one is based on the second season of the Metal Saga, but it can be excluded from the main story. In this film, we can witness the insane fight between the blade rider humans and the SUN. Yes, Helios, the alteration of the sun, comes down to fight mere humans with his crazy OP Sol Blaze bey.

The specials are fairly simple as well. They are just some extra episodes released for the Shogun Steel and Cyborg seasons, giving a better conclusion and fun new little tales to satisfy the fans.

6.3 Beyblade Burst QuadDrive / Dynamite Battle (29 eps so far) – 2021

These ONAs are the straight continuations of the Burst Saga, but it’s a little different: they are published online, without a TV broadcast. Not much to say about them, if you have watched the Burst series, then continuing it here would be a logical idea, as they are nearly the same anyway.

7.3 BeyWarriors: Cyborg (26 eps) – 2014

Well, what can I say about the BeyWarriors saga? Not many good things for sure. It was developed by a Canadian-Japanese team, and weirdly enough, it never actually aired in Japan, or in Japanese dub!

It went down a few times on Canadian TV channels, but the series wasn’t a big hit and it faded into oblivion. The plot is nearly the same as it was the first time, so make sure to not have too big expectations. If you even were to watch it. And yea, you would have to watch it in English dub.

Chronological Releases

ALL 17+ Beyblade Series Watch Order (Complete) EASY TO FOLLOW! (17)

As I have said before, watching the series in chronological order is the best experience. You can get all the information just like the OG fans did while they were waiting for new episodes at the time.

This method is more fun, as you are basically just binging all the way through, but it is also incredibly time-consuming. There are usually debates being started all the time about whether or not One Piece is worth watching due to its sheer length (the answer is yes by the way), and fans can hardly agree on the topic. To be honest, watching that many episodes of just one series might seem like a waste of time. You could also watch dozens of shorter anime with the time spent on One Piece!

But it is not for me, or anyone here to decide now. If you want to watch Beyblade from start to finish then follow this list. I’m pretty sure that if you can survive more than 50 eps then you will have no issue with finishing it all, as you are almost a true fan already!

1.4 Beyblade G-Revolution (52 eps)

The original Beyblade series, with its 154 episodes, is basically the full story of Beyblade. It’s simply the most beautiful and concluded version of the franchise, which is a fact we can all agree on.

Now, the movie is technically included in this group as well, but I believe it is not necessary to the story and it might even distract the viewer. It comes before the third season on the timeline, so watch it before starting the last 52 episodes!

2.4 Beyblade: Metal Fury (52 eps)

2.5 Beyblade: Shogun Steel (38 eps)

2.6 Beyblade: Shogun Steel Special (7 eps)

The Metal Saga is a complex matter but was certainly a good addition to the series. To watch it like it was intended, watch the movie right after Metal Master (although it’s not essential), and finish it off with the last special episodes of the Shogun Steel season.

Spin-offs rarely make a huge impact on the viewers as deriving from the original work is more of an act of seppuku than an actual chase of success. The BeyWarriors wasn’t much of a black sheep in the genre, it turned out “different”. While it comes after the Metal Saga in release order, you won’t miss out on much if you skip this group altogether, or if you mix up the order.

4.6 Beyblade Burst QuadDrive / Dynamite Battle (29 eps so far)

Burst is the last part of the Beyblade franchise, but it is an absolutely massive saga. It will soon reach 300 episodes, making it the longest of all variants of the Beyblade franchise. It’s hard to judge it properly, as it is only just what we have seen so far: it’s pure Beyblade. Simple, reliable, and fun to watch if you’re a hardcore fan, so jumping in is a straightforward choice. The last season is still ongoing, and at the time of the writing of this article, it had 29 episodes released.

Comment before I Appear In Your Nightmares!

This was my watch guide for the Beyblade franchise! Undoubtedly a lengthy one, and you should only watch it really if you are interested in physical toys. Beyblade can be fun on its own, but going back to the same stuff after hundreds of hours spent on a topic is truly a reserved trophy for the hardcore fans. Are you one?

Make sure to tell us about your opinion on Beyblade down below in the comments! You can share your watch guides if you disagree with me. We always expect and accept new takes on topics like this. While you’re at it, I can recommend you to read our other articles about similar stuff, like recommendations or watch guides!
